Cutting-Edge Technology to
Enable Transformative Research
The Goeddel Family Technology Sandbox serves all biological researchers on the UC San Diego campus in a nearly 5,000-square-foot space in Bonner Hall. The Technology Sandbox houses cutting-edge equipment that enables any research group to access advanced technologies and associated expertise for their research goals, as well as a space for industry collaborations, equipment demonstrations, training courses and technology-based classes. The Sandbox was established to accelerate life sciences and biomedical research, broaden available experimental platforms, enhance competitiveness for external funding and enable technological advances. Industry partnerships within the Technology Sandbox will result in state-of-the-art instrumentation placed to ensure that researchers are working at the cutting edge.
We gratefully acknowledge our instrumentation partners
in the Goeddel Family Technology Sandbox
We offer advanced instrumentation in the following areas…
- Visualization across scales: Cryo-electron microscopy (CryoEM), Cryo-electron tomography (CryoET) and advanced light microscopy.
- Biological mass spectrometry: Initial focus on proteomics and with future expansion to other biological mass spectrometry applications.
- Future instrument placements: considered in the areas of state-of-the-art flow cytometry and cell analysis tools, next generation DNA sequencing, and high throughput bioassay automations tools
