Biology Professor Martin Yanofsky will be honored for excellence in teaching by the UCSD Alumni Association at the 29th annual Awards for Excellence on June 2, 2007.

Yanofsky is regarded as one of UCSD's best instructors. He is a popular undergraduate mentor who opens up his lab to undergraduates for research and internships. His commitment to science education goes well beyond the campus. He has spent countless hours volunteering in the community to give elementary and middle school students hands-on experiences learning about DNA, genetics and how to use science in their everyday lives.

In addition to cultivating young people's interest in biology, Yanofsky is Chair of the Section of Cell and Developmental Biology. He is a UCSD alumnus and has been a professor in the division since 1990. He was recently named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for his research on the molecular and genetic bases of fruit and flower development.

Additional honoree information is available on the UCSD Alumni Association website at www.alumni.ucsd.edu/awards or by calling (858)534-3900.
